Job Description: Location of Position: Florida Duties: assists in the operation of a University 70 ft. R/V . Incumbent purchases food and supplies in preparation for cruise, prepares nutritious meals while underway, performs housekeeping duties not limited to galley maintenance, cleaning of berths and heads, provides basic first aid as necessary, participate in routine watchkeeping, assist science party/crew in operation of deployment and retrieval of oceanographic/vessel equipment (i.e. line handling, winches, CTD's, anchors and etc.), performs manual labor and daily routine maintenance and repair on the vessel. Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience): This position requires a high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Certifications for Standards for Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping, Basic Safety Training (STCW-95, BST); first aid; and CPR must be acquired within the first two months of employment. Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience): Experience sailing and cooking on research vessels. Merchant Mariner's Document with Food Handler endorsement issued by the U.S. Coast Guard preferred. Experience working with students and faculty in university setting. |
